Sam is a Director of Foley Douglas who believes good legal advice should be straightforward, easy to understand, and tailored to your real-world goals. Known for his accessible and responsive approach, Sam takes the time to understand what matters most to his clients and helps them move forward with confidence.

Sam leads the firm’s property team and advises on all aspects of residential and commercial property transactions, including conveyancing, subdivisions, and land developments. He has been recognised as an accredited Property Law Specialist by the New Zealand Law Society, reflecting his extensive experience and expertise in the property field.

In addition to property matters, Sam regularly advises business owners on commercial transactions, including buying and selling businesses, contract drafting and review, and a wide range of day-to-day commercial issues. He also assists clients with trusts, wills, estate planning, and relationship property matters.

What Sam enjoys most about practising law is building long-term relationships with clients. Many people first engage him for a property transaction and continue to seek his advice as their lives evolve—whether that means growing a business, protecting family assets, planning their estate, or helping the next generation into their first home.

Outside the office, Sam and his wife Emily, a marine scientist, have three children who keep them on their toes. Sam serves as Presiding Member of the Board of Trustees at Knighton Normal School and, when time allows, enjoys getting out for a run.
